The upcoming Gran Meliá Maldives is located in Thaa Atoll, an idyllic setting in the heart of the Laccadive Sea. The island accommodates all shared facilities, while the villas extend over the water in two branches, comprising a total of 100 units: 48 double villas, 30 single villas, 12 beach villas, 6 family villas, 2 presidential suites, and one private island villa accommodating up to 12 guests.
The project is conceived to heighten the experience of the landscape while preserving its natural balance. All buildings and walkways are elevated on pilings to minimise impact on the soil, and the pools are integrated with an existing rock reef, using natural seawater to reinforce the connection with the environment.
Each villa, whether single or double, is designed as a private retreat, a serene cabin where guests can experience the quiet luxury of the Maldives. The layout is carefully designed to guide the experience from the very first moment: upon entering, the eye is drawn towards the sea, while a subtle central element gently screens the bed from immediate view, maintaining openness without rigid partitions.
From this central living space, lightweight partitions and textured sliding panels lead to the dressing area and into a spacious bathroom, designed to be enjoyed in connection with the surrounding seascape. The palette remains intentionally neutral, allowing the true protagonist, the turquoise blue of the ocean, to stand out.
The terrace becomes an extension of the living space, featuring multiple lounging areas, dining settings, and daybeds. As one of the most lived-in areas of the villa, it offers direct access to the sea, creating a seamless transition between architecture and water, and allowing the experience to unfold naturally outdoors.
Architecture remains light, quiet, and secondary, allowing the sea to define the true luxury of the experience.
